If you like Red, White, and Royal Blue

So I'm a little late to the party. I've had this book since it came out, it just took me a while to get to it in my TBR pile (don't ask!). I really enjoyed it, so here's some other books I've read that are like it.

Conventionally Yours (Annabeth Albert) - Gaming, fandom, and a road trip with two guys who are completely different. At least on the surface! Conrad is one of the popular ones at school. Aiden isn't. Each of them has their own problems to face. Neither really cares for the other, but things begin to change when they take a trip to a gaming convention and tournament. Annabeth Albert has written more than a few popular books, well worth your time. As a bonus, the new sequel to this title, Out of Character, was just recently released. Right on my TBR pile!

Carry On (Rainbow Rowell) - Simon has got to be the worst Chosen One in history! Half the time he can't even get a spell to work right. So says Baz, and Simon suspects deep down, he may be right. This is a wizarding world (and school) completely different from what you expect. I read the book version of this, and listened to the audio of the second book (Wayward Son), and I completely enjoyed them. Enough so that the third book, Any Way the Wind Blows, was pre-ordered and immediately added to my TBR pile. Rainbow Rowell has created a series I'll be sorry to see the end of. For frenemies to lovers fans.

Boyfriend Material (Alexis Hall) - Another prolific writer, Alexis Hall has written a lot of books! Including a steampunk-ish romance series I definitely want to read. And she has two follow-ups to Boyfriend Material in the works: Husband Material (planned for August of 2023) and The Amnesia Plot. Again, straight to my TBR. Here, Luc is kind of a mess. The child of rock-star parents, he can't quite get his life together. His dad walked out when he was really young, and he's never met him. In order to clean up his image (and save his job), Luc has to find someone nice and normal to fake date. Enter Oliver: a barrister, vegetarian, and no scandal. Ever. But he needs a date for a family thing coming up. As expected, fake dating doesn't work as planned, but we really get to enjoy the journey. Strangers to friends to more.

All of these books are ones I've enjoyed very much. I suspect others will enjoy them too, so give them a look! Let me know in the comments, and suggest similar titles. I'm always looking for new great reads!

Welcome ...

...to Books and Brew! We'll be talking about books (especially mysteries, fantasy, and some romance), and brews like coffee, tea, and the divine chocolate. Pretty much the things I like that I hope others will also find interesting.

Me? I'm a former library worker, long-time fan of genre fiction and a life-long tea and chocolate drinker. Coffee, not so much, but I'm learning! Favorite classic writers include Jane Austen, J. R. R Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Charles Williams. Tolkien and Lewis I think I discovered in high school, and Williams in college. I read my first Austen (Pride and Prejudice, which I still read at least once a year) when I was about 13 years old, so it's been a while.
